Telegram has blocked channels with personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation, including beurette telegram, both protesters and law enforcement officers, said the founder of the messenger, Pavel Durov.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor demanded to block this information.

As Durov said in his Telegram channel, in recent weeks, Telegram has blocked several channels “which posted publicly the phone numbers and addresses of protesters in Russia.”

‚ÄúTogether with them, channels appeared where the home addresses and phone numbers of judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, as well as journalists and media managers appeared. (…) Such use of Telegram directly contradicts our rules, which prohibit public calls to violence. attention to the emotional intensity of the situation in Russia, we carefully analyzed the situation, not wanting to harm a hasty decision, “he wrote.

However, Durov noted, “in connection with these channels, an emergency Telegram update for iOS has not been released for more than a week – it has not received Apple’s approval.”

As a result, today we decided to block problematic channels with personal data. I ask the authors of public Telegram channels not to disseminate calls to violence and personal data of other people. This will allow us to continue to update Telegram in the App Store and Google Play, consistently applying our rules to all violators, regardless of their political views. ”

On February 1, Roskomnadzor demanded that the Telegram messenger stop the illegal dissemination of personal data of citizens “on the basis of received applications from citizens”, since the publication of personal data of citizens without their consent contradicts the Russian law “On Personal Data” and the privacy policy of Telegram Group Inc. itself. The department noted that “violation of the confidentiality of personal data threatens the safety of persons whose data continues to remain in the public domain with the connivance of the company.”

Earlier, the Kommersant newspaper reported that after unauthorized opposition rallies in support of Alexei Navalny on January 23, a channel appeared in the Telegram messenger that collects and publishes personal data of police officers and national guards involved in detentions.
